Congratulations to Allyson Felix!
In 2008, Highlights magazine featured athlete Allyson Felix in the August issue. “Speed Queen,” by contributor Michele Deppe, shared Allyson’s thoughts on her journey to the Olympics. But her Olympic journey didn’t end in Beijing. Felix earned her first Olympic gold medal in the 200-meter sprint in London Wednesday. “I run every race to win it,” Allyson told our readers. “But if I don’t win, I’ll learn something. And that’s OK, too.” Congrats to Allyson on her win, and on her Olympic spirit.

Allyson Felix is one of the fastest women in the world. But it took some trial and error to figure that out.
Finding Her Sport
Raised in Los Angeles, Allyson played basketball in grade school. She enjoyed shooting hoops, but she wasn’t that good. The other players called her “chicken legs” because they thought she looked too skinny to be an athlete.
